This strange looking insect is also known as the "Guitar Beetle" or the "Violin Beetle" because of its uncanny resemblance to these stringed instruments. It is a member of the ground beetle family. It's strangely flat design suits it perfectly for fitting between the bark and wood of decaying logs where it hunts for food.
