Details
The most identifiable structure of this strange looking lanternfly
is the large snout-like feature on the insect's head, hence the
nicknames "Peanut-head bug" and "alligator bug",
often used by the locals in South America.
In order to keep small predators away, the Fulgora lanternaria
mimics the owl with its brilliant "eyes" on its hind
wings.
